How to lay ceramic tile

My friends asked me : “Max, can you give us a few easy steps for installing Ceramic tile”, So here it is :

The first step in tiling is to prepare the floor for it by removing previous flooring and if it is a new floor then by leveling it with concrete. Cleaning out the floor before you begin tiling is not a pleasant task especially if you have old vinyl or tiles on it already. The benefits however are many as it ensures that your floor has a good base and tiles do not loosen very fast.

The next step is to just lay out the tiles and decide the pattern and after adjusting as required. While setting the pattern, you can chalk out the floor as well so that laying the tiles is easy and fast. Ensuring the line alignment of the first few ceramic tiles is critical since it will form the base for the rest of the tiles. Other than that, you can start laying the adhesive and then slowly pound it first from the centre and then lightly from the sides.

You should start from the center of the wall and then move outwards ensuring that no one steps on the tiles at least for thirty six hours after they have been laid. Though the new adhesives pretty much take care of this step, it is useful to follow this instruction for better bonding. The last step when laying ceramic tiles is to clean the sides and the complete floor and then fill it with white cement. Not only does this enhance the look of the floor, it also makes the binding stronger.
